Fresh from winning the LIAHL Championship on March 3rd, 2018, the Dix Hills Hawks Pee Wee team participated in the Shamrock Showdown Tournament this past March 10th and 11th hosted by Protec Ponds located in Somerset, New Jersey.
Over the course of the weekend, the Hawks won all 4 of their games. These victories were difficult as the Hawks always battled back from behind. In the semi finals, after being tied 3 goals a piece at the end of regulation play, the Hawks fought the Protec Ducks White team to a draw during the 5 minute, 3 on 3 overtime period sending them to a sudden death shootout. The Hawks scored the 1st goal and the Ducks missed their opportunity, resulting in a Hawks win and securing their advancement to the finals.
The finals were no less thrilling, as the Hawks faced the Union Thunder. Again, down 1-0 in the first period, the Hawks battled back in the second period scoring a goal to tie the game. Late in the third period, the Hawks scored an additional goal giving them the lead 2-1. With less than 2 minutes to go, Union Thunder pulled their goalie but the Hawks defensive play was strong and they were able to clear the puck to the neutral zone, which ensured the Hawks victory.
With this tournament victory, the Dix Hills Hawks Pee Wee team closed the books on their very successful 2017-2018 season. The Hawks organization wishes the best of luck to all these Hawks as they continue to move forward with their hockey aspirations.
