The Long Island hockey community is excited to welcome Coach Gene Castro to the organization, bringing with him a wealth of experience, leadership, and a deep-rooted passion for the game.
A Long Island native, Coach Castro grew up playing travel hockey locally before advancing his career at Stony Brook University, where he competed at the collegiate level. His strong understanding of the position, particularly between the pipes, naturally transitioned into coaching following his graduation. At Stony Brook, he served as the team’s Goalie Coach, developing netminders through structured training, technical refinement, and a focus on mental toughness.
Coach Castro’s expertise goes beyond drills and mechanics. He brings a modern approach to goalie development—emphasizing edge work, positioning, situational awareness, rebound control, and the mental resilience required to excel in high-pressure moments. His ability to connect with young athletes while demanding accountability and consistency makes him a valuable addition to the program.
With experience both as a player and as a collegiate-level coach, Gene understands what it takes to advance to the next level. His leadership will play a critical role in strengthening the foundation of our goaltending development across all age groups.
